Sunday Morning Croissant Reading #2

This weeks collection of readings span the rather lighthearted (think Gossip Girl with Botox) to the rather sombre love letter of a dying woman to her husband.

Reading in Short:

The New Yorker has published a rerelease of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story “I.O.U”. If you have ever tried to struggle through The Beautiful and Damned or The Great Gatsby and never made it, then this is your chance to read Fitzgerald for dummies (or just those time poor). Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Letters of Modern Love:

Amy Krouse Rosenthal wrote this piece ‘You May Want to Marry My Husband’ as a love letter and open dating profile for her husband. It is a beautiful piece about love in the modern age and fairytales that don’t last for ever. Amy sadly past away 10 days after this was published, making this her last work and a touching tribute to their love.

Gossip Girl in the Now:

Lizzie Sandall revisits the teen phenomenon Gossip Girl 10 years after it first aired (do you feel old now?!) in her piece for Slutever. The fashions might have changed but B and S haven’t lost their charm or relevance to now. Beyond its tween pull, GG is a study in class warfare and scandal.
